African American Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Please Note:  We are not an organization that helps only minority veterans, and/or veterans with PTSD!!  We assist ALL veterans, of all colors/race/creed/gender with ALL claims to the VA for compensation and pension.

 

American Ex-Prisoners of War

The American Ex-Prisoners of War organization is a national organization for American citizens who were captured by the enemy. Membership is open to all former prisoners of war from any theater in any war, all former civilian internees and to the families of such persons. There is no such thing as an "associate" member and we have no auxiliaries. Each and every member is entitled to all privileges of membership.

 

American Red Cross

Today's American Red Cross is keeping pace with the changing military. Using the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, the Red Cross sends communications on behalf of family members who are facing emergencies or other important events to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving all over the world. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

 

AMVETS

For more than 60 years, we in AMVETS have taken to heart the credo of service set forth by our organization’s founding fathers. In so doing, we endeavor to provide our fellow veterans with the type of support they truly deserve. This outreach effort takes many forms, from the professional advice our service officers offer on earned veterans benefits to our legislative efforts on Capitol Hill to the work done by our hospital volunteers. Other AMVETS members involve themselves in a range of initiatives aimed at contributing to the quality of life in their local communities.

 

Armed Forces Services Corporation

In addition to providing contractual services to the AAFMAA grandfathered membership, AFSC NOW offers our valuable services to ALL ranks, ALL branches of services (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard) to include active duty, reserve, and retired members; and widow and widowers of military members.

 

Blinded Veterans Association

"To promote the welfare of blinded veterans so that, notwithstanding their disabilities, they may take their rightful place in the community and work with their fellow citizens toward the creation of a peaceful world.

 

Disabled American Veterans

Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families. The organization accomplishes this goal by providing free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. It is fully funded through its membership dues and public contributions. It is not a government agency and receives no government funds.

 

 

National Amputation Foundation

From its inception, the Foundation was aware of the needs unique to amputees and therefore, dedicated all its efforts to helping all veteran amputees. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its facilities to include civilian amputees as well.

 

National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, Inc.

National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs

Each year state governments spend more than $3.5 billion to support our nation's veterans and their families. Collectively, we are second only to the federal Department of Veterans Affairs in providing benefits and services to the men and women who defended our nation. Although each state is unique, with its own traditions, programs, and resources, we are united by our common goal to make a difference in the lives of our veterans.

 

National Veterans Legal Services Program

NVLSP is an independent, nonprofit, veterans service organization dedicated to ensuring that the U.S. government honors its commitment to our veterans by providing them the federal benefits they have earned through their service to our country.

 

Paralyzed Veterans of America

Paralyzed Veterans of America works to maximize the quality of life for its members and all people with SCI/D as a leading advocate for health care, SCI/D research and education, veterans’ benefits and rights, accessibility and the removal of architectural barriers, sports programs, and disability rights. We are the only Congressionally chartered veterans organization dedicated solely to serving the needs of SCI/SCD veterans.

VETS' PENSION PROGRAM

Project "VetAssist" is a free online service from the American Veterans Institute administered by the VA for the Improved Pension Program. This program is intended to aid disabled vets and vets over 65 years of age who have very limited income. Eligible Veterans and surviving spouses qualify for Aid & Attendance, Housebound Benefits and/or Basic Pension. To do the easy questionaire for benefits, go to www.vetassist.org ; you need not give any information to find if you qualify. Another good site to visit is www.veteranaid.org for more information on these programs.

While this is not a complete list of all the organizations which help Veterans, the ones shown are most likely to help our newest members adjust to being a member of the unique group of U.S. Military Veterans. BE PROUD!
